Melky Jean Makeover for Haitian Women Inspiring HopeHow do you improve the lives of Haitian women in children? Is it solely by providing aide during trouble times? Is it solely by giving them clean clothes and food? Is it by giving them an education and hope for the future? We at the Carma Foundation believe it's all of the above and then some. We ask ourselves this question everyday. How do you improve the lives of Haitian women and children? And everyday we come up with different answers. This Spring the Carma Foundation Launched the first leg of a program that will continue on and become a stable in our initiatives. The Carma Foundation Makeovers.

According to Darline Allen our on the ground Coordinator, the mission was an absolute success. The Makeovers took place April 23rd to April 27th in Carefour and FourMarisen. The women were made aware that the Carma Foundation wanted to give them makeovers and the response was overwhelming. So many women wanted makeovers that those who were chosen had to be moved to a secret location for safety reason. The women were taken to a safe house and pampered. Some of the women chosen had lost husbands, children a few of the women even lost limbs and were amputees as a result of the devastating  earthquake. The women received pedicures, manicures, hair weaves, ponytails, braids, make up and make up tutorials.

The children were given clean and new clothes some donated from as far away as Australia. The little girls hairs were braided and an air of happiness pervaded the air. Even if it were for a moment the women forgot about their problems. Many of the women were still displace and lost so much but thanks to Team Carma's efforts in the states we were able to give them a moment of normalcy. Women regardless of where they live have the same wants and desires. While raising their children and taking care of their families it is important that they know they are appreciated. Please check out the before and after pics of our Tent City Makeovers.

We would like to thank our Ground Coordinator, Darline and all of the Carma Foundation supporters for making this mission possible.

Melky Jean
