Carma Cares

The Carma Foundation has become a leading voice in the media since the tragic earthquake hit Haiti On January 12, 2010.  Carma founder Melky Jean has been interviewed on CNN, MSNBC, Fox, MTV, BET and countless radio and television shows.  We are actively bringing awareness to the plight of the Haitian people and encouraging the international community to do its part in helping to heal and rebuild Haiti.

We were among a small group of selected Haitian leaders and organizations that met with the Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, to discuss Haiti in the wake of the earthquake and to coordinate relief efforts. The Vice President assured us that this administration is dedicated to helping Haiti in the long run.

*RELIEF EFFORTS: CARMA ON THE GROUND IN HAITI *

Currently, the Carma Foundation has boots on the ground in Haiti ensuring that each and every donation is delivered to the appropriate people.  Carma has successfully delivered over 3 tons (!) of food and water.  We have also delivered tents and funds directly to the Haitians who are most in need, including orphans.

Carma teamed up with Powered by Action to bring food, water, tents, cooking utensils, first aid and hygiene kits into Haiti through the Dominican Republic during the crucial first hours and days after the earthquake when the Port au Prince airport was inoperable.

Carma’s team on the ground purchased Galvanized sheets and crafted tents to serve as temporary shelters.

Carma continues to support local merchants by buying rice, oil, and flour for the orphanage from the locals who still are trying to make a living.

In the weeks ahead A delegation of Carma supporters, volunteers, board members and staff will journey into Haiti. Our goal will be to bring aid, support and most importantly, smiles  to the Haitian people.  It is our goal to ultimately leave  our children and the beautiful people of Haiti with Hope.  We will let them know that WE, the Carma Team, are not only here for them, but we are walking alongside them in this difficult time. Why? Because *CARMA CARES*

Carma Cares about where and how children live. The Carma Kids are very dear to our hearts.  When they smile we smile, when they cry we cry, and as most of you know, the Carma kids were already living in devastating conditions.  Since the earthquake they are left without a home. With Hurricane season around the corner we are in DIRE need of shelter for the Carma Kids.THIS IS OUR MOST IMPORTANT GOAL.

Our Mission is to secure and build a Hurricane-Safe /Earth Quake Safe  Home for the Carma Kids..

*SUCCESS STORIES*

The Children of our orphanage, who we affectionately call the "CarmaKids" have been stabilized.  We are happy to report that they are eating every day, and are in good health and spirits.

We helped to sustain two Haitian cities, Village Theodat, and Lassere.  Both received direct aid from Carma in the wake of the devastation.

Carma has worked with other organizations like Powered by Action, Care, and Hopes 4 Orphans in organizing relief efforts and initiatives for the future stabilization of Haiti.

*Carma Scholarship Recipients.  Carma knows that education is the key to success and economic freedom. When we began 2010 we were very excited about the success of the 1st Annual Jingle Bell Ball in New York City, we secured scholarships for a few more students. Our students had started school before the earthquake struck, and luckily our scholarship recipients survived and plan to continue their education. We will continue to support them along the way.
