PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (Reuters) — In Haiti, the Americas’ poorest state, the top priority of the incoming prime minister is no different from that of the leader of the world’s richest economy, the United States, just a two-hour flight away.

“Jobs, jobs, jobs,” the new prime minister, Garry Conille, said in an interview hours after the Haitian Senate ratified him as the new head of the government. He was nominated by President Michel Martelly.

Melky Jean Makeover for Haitian Women Inspiring HopeHow do you improve the lives of Haitian women in children? Is it solely by providing aide during trouble times? Is it solely by giving them clean clothes and food? Is it by giving them an education and hope for the future? We at the Carma Foundation believe it's all of the above and then some. We ask ourselves this question everyday. How do you improve the lives of Haitian women and children? And everyday we come up with different answers. This Spring the Carma Foundation Launched the first leg of a program that will continue on and become a stable in our initiatives. The Carma Foundation Makeovers.

Carma foundations goal and focus has always been to improve the lives of Haitian women and children. This year Carma foundation has stretched there reach to include community outreach focusing on Haitian and American children  in our local communities. When we heard  about a mostly Haitian track team who could not afford to purchase their track uniforms, Carma Foundation stepped in and helped ALL the children purchase their uniforms. We found the significance of uniforms to children in our work in Haiti. It makes children feel like they belong to a family part of something bigger then the issues that may plague them. We support all of  our children in the endeavors and dreams. ALL children should be able to Dream and Dream Big.

"I sat in my bed at my new apartment in Miami, and watched a boat load of Haitian refugees attempt to come into the country. I watched as people jumped in the water and tried to make it to shore. How the boat even made it was a miracle to me. I started to think about all the people who didn’t survive, and this Haitian American girl became emotional. I picked up the phone and called my brother. I don’t even know if he remembers what he told me. But in true big brother fashion, he told me to Do Something." - Melky Jean

"I believe in the “Butterfly Effect” I have seen for myself the impact that one dedicated person can have. I have seen inspirational joy, pride and resilience in the eyes of children living in most peoples definition of hell. I have seen a nation that is fighting insurmountable obstacles to rebuild itself and sings with celebration as they do it. I am dedicated for life to the Children of Haiti and the Carma Foundation and I am blessed, humble and honored to be doing so.”
